Setting the Standard that recognises technical knowledge and the competence to recommend solutions.
The NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre) is committed to expanding The Cyber Advisor Scheme with its Delivery Partner IASME, and also with The Cyber Scheme as the only assessment body for the programme. Recently IASME created an informative webinar that featured staff from all three organisations explaining the value of the scheme, the learning requirements, the assessment process, and some useful tips on taking and passing the assessment.
Emma W, Head of Cyber Essentials and Cyber Advisor, NCSC, introduced the webinar with some invaluable insights into why NCSC want to see more Cyber Advisors within the cyber security industry, particularly as they carry the recognition and assurance from NCSC that they give good and trusted advice, relevant and appropriate to the organisation receiving it.
“The scheme sets the standard in assessing Cyber Advisors both on their technical knowledge, and in having the competence to recommend solutions appropriate to the size of the organisation, and to implement the controls or direct the implementation of the controls. It’s not just about knowledge; you must be able to demonstrate skills to be successful including team working, communication and influencing.
This assessment is demanding. It’s not an entry level route; it demands a level of skill that’s not just about technical expertise but about designing appropriate solutions and communicating in plain English.
We’re confident at NCSC, through ongoing evaluation, that it is set at the correct level”.
