Associate Title ACSP
Associate Cyber Security Professionals will have demonstrated competence within areas of cyber security knowledge and are either employed in or ready for employment within cyber security.
As such, they are operating at a level where their professional expertise could be used effectively in a cyber security role.
Associate Cyber Security Professionals should demonstrate that:
- Their knowledge and application of expertise within cyber security allows for them to carry our defined roles effectively.
- They have reasonable communications and interpersonal skills.
- They understand the need to develop management skills and have carried out some supervised activities within either a real or simulated cyber security environment.
- They understand and apply integrity, morals, and ethical values.
- They carry out and plan for continued development of themselves and the cyber security profession.
The Associate professional registration title is not aligned to a specialism.
You may apply for the title with The Cyber Scheme regardless of the sector of cyber security where you already work, or wish to work in the future. The Cyber Scheme will support your career development and aid your transition to a Practitioner title in whatever specialism you choose.
What comes after Associate? Practitioner, Principal and Chartered Registrants hold their professional registration against a chosen specialism, which is seen as their deep specialist area of competence (or their main specialist competence as a multi-disciplinary professional). Currently The Cyber Scheme are licensed to assess and recommend individuals for the Security Testing, Incident Response and Secure Operations specialisms, and more will become available as they are developed by the Council.
The Council is currently reviewing how a Chartered, Principal and Practitioner Registrant may move between Specialisms. It is envisaged that once a formal process is confirmed, a Registrant will be able to move between Specialisms. The Council will publish further details relating to this on its website.
Please read our guidance notes below to decide whether Associate title is the right one for you. Please ensure you read the UK Cyber Security Council’s Standard for Professional Competence and Commitment for detailed guidance on competency requirements as well as examples of the sort of evidence required. Our application form also includes contextualised notes to ensure you complete it correctly.
