Writing a Great Professional Title Application
SUCCESS GUIDE
Learn how to present your experience, judgement and professional competence through clear, evidence-based examples.
A strong professional title application does more than list your responsibilities, qualifications or technical skills. Assessors need clear evidence of how you have applied your knowledge, judgement and professional competence in real situations.
This guide explains how to use the STAR approach (Situation, Task, Action and Result), to structure effective evidence for your application. It will help you make your personal contribution clear, demonstrate how you worked with others and show how the outcomes of your work were verified.
The guidance includes detailed examples for Practitioner, Principal and Chartered applications across:
- Security Testing
- Incident Response
- Governance & Risk Management
- Secure Operations.
It also explains how to present evidence from sensitive or confidential work without disclosing protected information, and highlights the difference between general statements and evidence that an assessor can properly evaluate.
The examples are aligned to the UK Cyber Security Council’s Standard for Professional Competence and Commitment, version 4.2. They are provided to illustrate structure and evidential depth and should not be copied. Your application must be based on your own verifiable experience.
