Trouble Shooting WireGuard VPN

The Windows WireGuard client (which we use for some of our training and assessments) has an issue when using certain virtualisation settings. The issue stops the VPN client from being able to see our exam and training platform.

Summary
Using the Windows Features menu:
 
  •     Select Start
  •     Search for Windows features
  •     Select Turn Windows features on or off
  •     Find and select Virtual Machine Platform
  •     Select OK
  •     Restart your computer if prompted.


If you are using virtual devices and you have connected your base operating system to our virtual private network (VPN) you might need to remove the WireGuard kill switch.

In Microsoft Windows, in the WireGuard graphical user interface (GUI) there is an edit option which will allow you to uncheck the kill switch.

To summarise, only Windows has a kill switch, other operating systems don’t use this, this is only needed if you are using a virtual device (ie Qualys in VMWare) and you are using a network address translation (NAT) network.
