During the first plenary of CYBERUK24 in May, Felicity Oswald OBE, CEO of NCSC, spoke about how Cyber Essentials certification is a major step in making organisations more resilient:
“It reminds us that all businesses must look at cyber security as an integral part of their organisational risk management. This can be done in a number of ways. Gaining a Cyber Essentials certificate is a major step in making organisations more resilient. Those that have done so are 92% less likely to make an insurance claim.”
Saqib Bhatti MP MBE, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, re-iterated in his own speech how it is crucial that more businesses and organisations in the UK adopt the scheme to help improve the UK’s resilience against cyber attack.
“So let me be unequivocally clear – Cyber Essentials works. And we need to get many more businesses and organisations to adopt Cyber Essentials and prevent those basic attacks which are so prevalent. This will have a huge impact on the UK’s overall level of cyber resilience.”
The Cyber Scheme works closely with IASME to deliver assessments aimed at individuals wishing to assess against Cyber Essentials Plus or become a Cyber Advisor and help organisations adopt the Cyber Essentials standard.
In order to deliver Cyber Essentials Plus assessments, a Certification Body will need at least one ‘Lead Assessor’. A Lead Assessor may hold a CSTM exam from The Cyber Scheme to be considered to have met the standard required from NCSC and IASME to operate Cyber Essentials Plus Certification Services.
All other CE+ assessors within the same Certification Body will be required to have at least 3 years experience of working in IT or Cyber Security and pass our Vulnerability Assessment Plus exam.
The new Cyber Advisor (Cyber Essentials) scheme has been developed to provide small and medium sized organisations with reliable and cost effective cyber security advice and practical support. The focus of that advice and support will be on the implementation of the technical controls set out in Cyber Essentials. This approach will improve the cyber security of small organisations and reduce the likelihood of the most commonly experienced cyber attacks.
